Tribune is an HR platform designed for global remote teams, offering tools to manage organizational structures, track PTO&Vacations, handle employee files, and streamline contracts and access control
As a Senior Product Designer, I worked with the CEO, CTO, and a mid-level designer to shape Tribune.cloud.
My responsibilities included:
Leading the design vision, collaborating with the engineering and product team
Collect requirements from HR and business stakeholders
Conducted in-depth research with users
Team
In her role Elizaveta played a pivotal part in leading the design efforts for our HR platform aimed at managing global distributed teams. Her strategic approach to improving navigation and user customisation features resulted in increase in user engagement and boost in our NPS. Through her innovative design solutions, she significantly enhanced the user experience for both HR professionals and employees, ensuring our platform remains a critical tool for managing teams across multiple regions.
We conducted in-depth interviews with HR professionals and business managers to understand the core challenges of managing global teams.
HR Managers
Focused on managing organizational structures, employee information, and compliance across global teams.
Business Managers
Interested in high-level metrics related to team performance, retention, and employee engagement, needing quick and efficient access to insights.
Team Leads
Responsible for direct oversight of their teams' daily activities, including managing leave requests, project allocations, and team coordination.
Through in-depth interviews and usability testing, I gathered valuable insights into the challenges users faced with navigating complex organizational structures and the lack of customization in dashboards. These findings helped shape design decisions to streamline the interface and introduce features that catered to the specific needs of each user group.
Based on insights gathered from in-depth interviews, user surveys, and a thorough competitor analysis, we identified several key challenges that were affecting user experience and efficiency. These findings helped us pinpoint the most pressing problems and guided our design approach to address specific user pain points and differentiate our solution from existing market offerings.”
Low User Engagement
High complexity in navigation led to fewer daily or monthly active users and lower session durations.
Increased Time Spent
Employees and HR managers spent excessive time navigating deep structures and performing HR/payroll tasks due to inefficient tools.
Job
Users need an intuitive way to navigate complex, deeply nested company structures without overwhelming the interface.
Hypothesis
Streamlining the navigation will reduce cognitive load and make accessing relevant information faster.
Solution
Improved the navigation by collapsing less essential levels, using breadcrumb trails, and ensuring that the structure adapts to fit the screen without overcrowding.
Job
Users need to view different organizational hierarchies (e.g., administrative vs. product teams) to understand reporting lines and workflow dependencies.
Hypothesis
Allowing users to toggle between or integrate these views will provide clarity on the company's multi-dimensional structure.
Solution
Added a feature to toggle between administrative and product-based structures (matrix structure), visualizing both hierarchies side-by-side for better context.
Higher Churn Rate
Poor usability and insufficient customization options led to dissatisfaction and increased customer churn.
Job
Users need personalized dashboards that show relevant widgets, such as attendance, leave status, and reports, to tailor the platform to their role and needs.
Hypothesis
Adding widget-based customization to user profiles will increase engagement by allowing users to organize their own dashboard.
Solution
Created a widget-based system where users can drag, drop, and customize sections of their dashboard with information relevant to their role.
Inaccuracies in Compliance
The lack of structured views and complex calendars resulted in frequent payroll or compliance-related errors.
Job
Users need a flexible calendar with country-specific filters to manage different time zones, national holidays, and company-wide schedules.
Hypothesis
Adding customizable filters and layouts will improve how teams across different regions coordinate holidays and project timelines.
Solution
Introduced advanced filters for countries and teams, multiple calendar layouts (e.g., day, week, month), and a view that shows both employee roles and regional holidays for seamless team scheduling.
We performed usability testing on prototype designs with potential B2B clients to test the ease of use, particularly around navigation and the org chart management system.
The design improvements were initially tested using cohort-based rollouts, focusing on new users.
By gradually introducing the features to targeted groups, we collected valuable insights before scaling them across the platform.
User Engagement
Increased daily active users by 30%, with a 25% boost in session duration due to improved navigation and customizable user profiles.
Time Savings
HR teams reported a 20% reduction in time spent managing team structures and PTO requests, thanks to more intuitive tools.
Customer Retention
NPS scores improved by 15 points, and several new clients onboarded after the vacation module update, leading to a 10% increase in overall customer retention.
Compliance Rate
The new calendar filters and legal documentation systems reduced payroll errors by 12%.
One of the biggest challenges was adapting the product for HR managers and developers who manage matrix structures. Many companies require both administrative and product team visibility, but balancing these views without overwhelming the user was key.
Moving forward, the onboarding process for new employees is a key area for development.
To improve efficiency, we plan to introduce a linear, automated onboarding flow that will gradually guide new hires through signing documents, completing training modules, and getting access to internal systems.
